Your Taking The Papiss

Absolutely sensational. It is the day after the night before and we are all still mesmerised by exactly what we saw last night at Stamford Bridge. Two goals of extremely high quality from Papiss Cisse were enough for the beloved Toon Army to take all three points against Chelsea.

Alan Pardew and Mike Ashley must be rubbing their eyes in disbelief at what the Senegalese striker has produced so far in his short Newcastle career, and not even in their wildest dreams could they have asked for a better start.

By the way if you have been in hiding from the media and social networking sites over the past 16 hours and have not seen the goals, I suggest you get yourself on Youtube immediately. The first goal in itself was good enough to win any match, with Cisse picking up the ball on the left edge of the penalty area he proceeded to chip it up and fizz a volley across Petr Cech and into the far top corner.

It can't get better than that... can it? Well actually, yes it can. Deep into injury time a harmless throw-in turns into a certain goal of the season. Flicked on by Shola Ameobi, Cisse strikes a first time half volley with the outside of his boot as Cech watches it swerve over his head into the far top corner.

It was a moment of sheer genius from the main man himself. Peter Crouch must have been sat at home with his head in his hands thinking, 'Even I can't compete with that'.

Credit must be given to the lads because once again they have defied everybody and come away with a result. Few people would have believed that a side beaten 4-0 at the weekend by Wigan could overturn a Chelsea side which included the likes of Terry, Ramires, Sturridge and Torres. Like many times this season, the squad stood up and were counted when the time was right.

So what does this mean for our Champions League chase? Well it means its right back on!!! Some may say Spurs have the box seat by being ahead on goal difference, but one thing they have which Newcastle don't is pressure.

Pardew's men were many people's tip for relegation, so this campaign has far far exceeded expectations. They can go into the final two matches against Manchester City and Everton knowing that no matter what happens, European football will be played on Tyneside next year.

As for the Champions League, who said there's only one place to play for? Arsenal will now be looking over their shoulders worryingly with both the Magpies and Spurs just one point behind. Its going down to the wire and its all about who can hold their nerve in the final two weeks. And if Pardew's men can do that, Europe's elite competition will come calling.

  1. Cisse was a great signing, and his goal was fantastic, potentially goal of the season for me
